Wargaming Japan needed its own site: the games, the company, careers, contact — in Japanese, for a Japanese audience, under a global brand with its own standards.

The interesting part was who else was in the room. Design owned the look, marketing owned what it had to say and when, and an internal SRE team owned what was allowed to run and how. Most WordPress projects answer to one of those. This one answered to all three, and the job was as much about translating between teams as writing code.

Security drove much of it. An admin login open to the internet was not acceptable, so the admin area was reachable only from the corporate network. That changes how everything else works, from how editors publish to how a deployment happens. Beyond that came the hardening rules the platform team required before anything went live.

The rest was ordinary work and had to be right: the design built out and made responsive, custom post types for the games catalogue, theme settings the marketing team could use without a developer, and Japanese throughout.
