ASICS was moving the Korean Onitsuka Tiger store onto Magento 2, and hit the wall every brand hits at the same point: the platform has no idea what a Korean payment method is. Nothing off the shelf covered the local card networks, and nothing covered the wallets Korean shoppers actually use.
We already had those gateways running on WooCommerce, so the work was porting them properly, not starting over — NHN KCP and KakaoPay first, then NAVER Pay built new for the platform.
NAVER Pay is the awkward one. It is really two integrations that share a name: a button on the product and cart pages that starts a purchase right there, and a payment method that appears at checkout like any other. A store usually wants both, and they work nothing alike.
This is where the Korean payment work stopped being just a WooCommerce concern. The same integrations now run on both platforms. The hard part was never the shopping cart. It was the gateways and what they demand.
