Daniel Wellington is a Swedish watch brand selling worldwide, and in 2019 its Korean storefront was run out of the China office. Running Korea from outside Korea hits the same wall every foreign brand does: the customer service channel the market expects is not the one the platform gives you.
A Korean shopper with a question does not fill in a contact form and wait for an email. They open KakaoTalk. A brand that wants to be asked has a Kakao Channel and a button on the site that opens it. That sounds like a widget, but it is really a business account, a verified brand identity, someone whose job is to answer it, and rules about what a brand is allowed to send.
Our part was advice, not code: how the channel gets registered and verified, what the consultation button does and where it belongs, who owns it once it is live, and what keeping it staffed actually costs. Korea for WooCommerce already shipped that button. The question was never how to install one.
Short and scoped — a consultation, not a build. It is here because the question keeps coming back, and for most brands entering Korea the answer is not a plugin.
